A Windows handheld — an ROG Ally, a Legion Go, or any of their relatives — is not a special platform. Underneath the gamepad shell it is an ordinary Windows 11 PC, and that is genuinely good news: DxWnd needs no handheld edition, no special build and no optimisation programme. The same current release you…
The short answer: there is no Linux version of DxWnd, and there doesn’t need to be — on Linux, a different layer does DxWnd’s job. DxWnd is a Windows program that works by hooking Win32 and DirectX calls inside a running Windows game. A native Linux binary has no such calls to hook. But Linux…
A fullscreen-era game assumes it owns your only monitor. A modern desk — two or three screens, a stream or recording running, chat on the side — breaks that assumption completely. The game seizes the primary display, your other screens flicker or go dark, alt-tabbing risks a crash, and your capture software records a black…
A DxWnd profile is the saved bundle of settings for one game — its path, window geometry, and every tab’s choices — and the .dxw file format is how a single profile travels: exported from one DxWnd, imported into another, shared with the community. Profiles are also where beginners lose work: settings tuned for an…
DxWnd has two documented ways of getting between a game and Windows: the usual GUI hook, where DxWnd stays resident and attaches when a profile launches — and proxy mode, where copies of DxWnd’s own DLLs are placed in the game’s folder so the game loads DxWnd itself. The download bundle includes the proxy DLL…
Locale emulation is the DxWnd feature that makes a game believe Windows is set to a different language and region, so text written for that locale is decoded correctly instead of displaying as gibberish. It is one of DxWnd’s documented features — the project’s own description lists the ability to set a custom locale among…
Time Stretching is DxWnd’s Timing-tab feature for games that run at the wrong speed: it applies a multiplier to the clock the game reads, so a classic that sprints on a modern CPU can be slowed to its designed pace, and a dragging one can be hurried up. Our troubleshooting guide to games running too…
The DirectX tab of a DxWnd profile holds the emulation options for DirectX-era games — the compatibility behaviours that replace the DirectDraw and early Direct3D quirks modern Windows and drivers no longer provide. It is also the tab most often misused: opened first, toggled at random, and blamed when the random toggling breaks things. This…
The Video settings in a DxWnd profile decide how the game’s picture is presented on a modern screen: frame-rate behaviour, colour-depth handling, and the presentation choices behind flicker and tearing. They are the second place to look for display problems — after you have confirmed the game hooks and opens in a window at all…
Where a windowed game appears, and how big it is, are decided on the Main tab of its DxWnd profile. The size and position fields there look trivial — four numbers — but they explain most “the window opens in the wrong place” complaints, and they work by simple desktop geometry that is worth understanding…
